about me
I’m a leadership strategist empowerment speaker, seasoned human resources executive, certified image consultant, and workplace equality advocate with over 20 years of leadership experience.
I am a Human Resources Executive with over 20 years of professional experience. As a human resources professional, I have served on the board for New York City Society for Human Resources Management (NYC SHRM) and recently chaired the organization’s Speaker Select Series. As a member of the national chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Advocacy Team (A-Team), I was afforded the opportunity to lobby on Capitol Hill to engage in healthy and meaningful dialogue with members of Congress, advocating for fairness and equity in the workplace.
I have also served as an Executive Team Member for the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (MNYSC HERC).
I hold a BA in Organizational Behavior & Communication from New York University (NYU), in addition to an MBA in General Management from Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY). I am also a Certified Image Consultant through the Studio for Image Professionals. Additionally, I am Certified in Mental Health First Aid.
While I have fared well professionally, my biggest accomplishments are overcoming adversity in my personal life numerous times.
September 11, 2001, is a day I will never forget—my life was forever changed. I survived the day. However, the mental, physical, and emotional wounds from that day will never completely go away.
In July 2002, my mother suffered a stroke which led to other complications. One of the complications led to my mom developing gangrene. Doctors wanted to cut off both legs, which I did not allow. Instead, I researched and found a doctor who cut off one toe in order to save both legs. My mom died six months later due to additional health related complications.
One late night in September 2011, I received a call from a detective which changed my life in a variety of ways. He called to let me know that my sister was murdered the previous day, in her own home.
Since July 2012, I have been raising my sister’s two children. At the time of my sister’s death, my nephew was 12 and my niece was 13. I was granted permanent legal custody for both in November 2012.
These adversities have shaped me into the woman I am today.
Surviving the Attacks of 9/11
Becoming my mother’s patient advocate less than a year later after my mom suffered stroke until her death a few months later
Gaining legal custody of my sister’s children after my sister was murdered in her own home
